Mindspace REIT Backs Bee Conservation
MUMBAI (India CSR): Mindspace Business Parks REIT (BSE: 543217 | NSE: MINDSPACE), a leading developer and owner of Grade A office portfolios, has launched a pioneering Stingless Honeybee Farming and Conservation Initiative across its flagship campuses in Navi Mumbai and Pune, marking a first-of-its-kind effort by a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) in India.
The program, guided by PM-recognised conservationist Amit Godse, aims to conserve endangered stingless bees—vital pollinators in India’s food chain—while redefining urban sustainability. Over 40 hives are already thriving at Gera Commerzone Kharadi in Pune and Mindspace campuses in Airoli East and West, with plans to expand to more business parks in the future.
Urban Sustainability and Biodiversity
Unlike traditional apiculture focused on honey production, the initiative centres on ecological impact. Stingless bees, often used by Konkan farmers to improve mango yields, are critical to crop productivity and biodiversity.
Mindspace REIT said the habitats have also engaged employees and tenants, turning into conservation hubs and educational spaces. The bee zones are now used for wellness walks, awareness events, and ecological learning sessions, symbolising a fusion of corporate spaces with nature.
Leadership Vision
Ramesh Nair, MD & CEO, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, said: “At Mindspace REIT, we believe doing what’s good for the environment is also good for business. This honeybee initiative is a small but meaningful step in creating greener, healthier campuses. It shows how nature and urban development can grow together. We’re proud to lead the way in making our business parks not just places to work, but places that care, for people and the planet.”
Rapid Ecological Impact
The bee populations have doubled within months due to Mindspace REIT’s lush, chemical-free campuses, reinforcing its green building ethos. The success highlights Navi Mumbai’s growing reputation as a model for ecological innovation.
Expert Guidance
The initiative is implemented under the expertise of Amit Godse, known for humane bee relocation and habitat restoration. His efforts, praised by the Prime Minister, ensure that bees are safely integrated into urban ecosystems.
